And the Social Media Marketing Winner Is…

Washington DC marketing strategyIn case you missed the Grammys, there was one clear winner:  Arby’s!  Arby’s?  How can that be? They don’t sing anything!  Yes, you are right, they don’t.  But this is a marketing blog and in the social media marketing world, they were the winner of the night in our book!

In another example of the power of social media and the impact JUST ONE tweet can have, Arby’s scored the tweet of the evening and got tons of exposure all thanks to Pharrell Williams’s hat.

The hat, which resembled the Arby’s logo, spurred a social media trending conversation about how the hat looked like the Arby’s logo…among other things, like Smokey the Bear's hat:

Not to miss out on the fun, Arby’s capitalized on the twitter conversation and sent this tweet:

To which Pharrell later responded:

There were MANY companies trying to align their brand messaging with the Grammys using social media – specifically Twitter.  So many, in fact, that Digiday was able to put a list together with commentary that you can check out here.  As you’ll see in that list, many of the attempts to tie brands to the Grammys were awkward or irrelevant.  But Arby’s tweet was relevant and even received a relevant response from Pharrell.  A huge social media #win for Arby’s.

Even large companies, such as Hyundai and Pepsi, applauded Arby’s via twitter for their Grammys win. Check out what Hyundai and Pepsi had to say about it.

This is just another example of how many major companies are using social media to further their brand messaging…and the impact social media can have on a brand. That’s why it is important to stay up-to-date and have an effective social media marketing strategy.
